Although Sony has not put out a live-action Spider-Man picture in what feels like ages and has no immediate plans for one, they remain committed to their own Spider-Verse, which includes a variety of iconic villains and allies.
In the wake of the critical and commercial failures of Morbius and the more recent Madame Web (which wasn’t well received), Sony is banking on their upcoming Spidey spinoff, Kraven, to spark renewed interest in their beleaguered comic book universe. Good luck with that.
They’ve just released a new trailer for the backstory of one of Spider-Man’s most formidable foes, and frankly, it looks pretty intriguing. Featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role, the fresh trailer for Kraven showcases the ruthless and ferocious nature of Sergei Nikolaievich Kravinoff (Kraven), who is on a mission. Expect to see him stabbing people, setting bear traps for violent takedowns, and gruesomely dispatching anyone who stands in his path—essentially positioning Kraven as the evil John Wick of Sony’s Spider-Verse.
The previous trailer revealed that he gains his superhuman abilities from a lion that took a few bites out of him but spared his life (reminiscent of Catwoman in 1992’s Batman Returns). Now, armed with his new powers, Kraven seeks to establish himself as the deadliest hunter alive while grappling with complicated issues related to his father (played by Russell Crowe), which will likely culminate in a confrontation by the film’s conclusion.
