Halle Berry finds herself at a critical juncture in her ongoing custody dispute with ex-husband Olivier Martinez. She insists that their 10-year-old son is suffering substantially due to the ongoing conflict, prompting her request for sole legal custody.
New legal documents acquired by TMZ reveal Halle’s claims that Olivier’s “turbulent and harmful behavior” has negatively impacted their 10-year-old son Maceo. In the documents, she details that he is facing significant behavior and learning challenges that Olivier is unwilling to address.
Halle asserts that Olivier has hindered efforts to provide Maceo with the assistance he needs, placing a higher value on soccer than on education, resulting in Maceo falling behind in his studies. She claims that Olivier has declined to hire a tutor, as it would disrupt soccer practice.
She explains that when Olivier has Maceo for extended periods, he returns home angry and combative. Halle claims Olivier discusses their disagreements about parenting with Maceo, presenting his perspective, which is taking a toll on the boy.
Halle admits she isn’t perfect but maintains that she has excelled as a parent, contrasting it with Olivier’s approach.
While the couple currently shares physical and legal custody, Halle is petitioning the court for sole legal custody, arguing that it is the only way to help Maceo get back on a positive path. She seeks the authority to make decisions regarding his education and therapy.
This custody battle has persisted for years following the couple’s separation in 2015 after two years of marriage, although their divorce was only finalized last August. Their conflicts have primarily revolved around parenting issues.
Halle reports having spent hundreds of thousands of dollars attempting to resolve their disputes privately but now feels compelled to take the matter to court, filing legal documents to inform the family law judge of the situation.
