Anthony Arillotta shared insights about his survival after cooperating with law enforcement against the mob while still residing in Springfield. He addressed the common misconception regarding mob retaliation, clarifying that organized crime functions differently from street gangs. Arillotta stressed the complexities and dangers of modern-day assassination attempts, citing the extensive surveillance and the increased chance of apprehension. As a former mob member, he noted that killings would garner significant law enforcement scrutiny, which deters mob leaders from authorizing contracts. Given today’s technological advancements, escaping after a murder is nearly impossible. Reflecting on the contemporary landscape of organized crime, Arillotta estimated that 98% of mob affiliates are informants, which has weakened the traditional codes of the mob. He also announced his upcoming book, “Southend Syndicate: How it Took Over the Genovese Springfield Crew,” scheduled for release on September 17. This book aims to illuminate the mafia activities in western Massachusetts and Connecticut, areas that are frequently overlooked in mob history.
